Head of the Ministry of Communication in Russia, Nikolai Nikiforov suggested cellular operators to increase the cost for LTE/4G services. According to him, prices on mobile internet didn’t change, while there is a new communication format. Experts consider that it is impossible to increase prices: first of all, operators do not distinguish communication services of 2nd and 3rd generation and sell them all together; secondly, the increase will result in subscribers’ churn – the development of the industry will slow down.
Prices on cellular communication in Russia are too low, and BIG 3 (MTS, Beeline and Megafon) should use the launch of 4G/LTE and to increase the tariff (The opinion of the Minister of Communication Nikolai Nikiforov).
Key problem of Russian operators – they become a “tube” for traffic transfer, and different external services (OTT), such as IP-telephony, video apps are “parasitizing” networks – said Vitaly Solonin, Head of Wireless Technologies J’son&Partners Consulting.
Maxim Klyagin also considers the words of the Minister rational (Analyst Finam Management): Such initiative, first of all, is because of daily tasks for further development of infrastructure, further expansive construction in the industry and for the range and quality of services increase.
