Brief Results of the Research

VPBX Market is an alternative to the traditional fixed telephony market and is one of the most perspective and fast growing on Russian telecom market. According to J'son & Partners Consulting’s estimations, market volume was 3.85 bln RUB in 2014, that is 57% higher than same indicator in 2013. Such major market growth is due to the increasing number of users as well as the increased ARPU. In 2014 VPBX market amounted 72 thousand clients.

High market growth rates will keep going in the future. The development of local (for example, MGTS) and federal (Rostelecom, Megafon, MTS etc) players will facilitate this growth, they are providing VPBX services in most Russian regions at the moment. Market profitability of such players will be higher as they don’t have to pay for the existed infrastructure; it means their cost on voice traffic will be much lower.

Key market driver will be clients’ preferences towards cloud business apps and refusal from traditional telephony. Scalability, flexibility and easiness of VPBX use, allow clients to manage business better. Market development will be provided by companies, which activity is connected to the construction industry, tourism, restaurants and hotels, also services spheres – industries, where the role of season fluctuation is vital.

Digital devide in different Russian regions will prevent the development. But largest market players are paying attention to this and have already started to solve this problem. In particular, Mango Telecom is actively developing the program of regional expansion and launching in largest Russian cities. Federal communication operators, such as Megafon and Rostelecom, also see potential in this direction, they also have already covered major regions in the country. There is a favorable business climate in regions, it means the market is low saturated with offers in comparison with the current level of demand.

There are over 60 providers, which offer VPBX services in Russia, among them there are communication operators and large independent players, and various small companies.

The highest concentration of market players is in Moscow, where over 50 providers offer VPBX service, in St.-Petersburg – 40 providers. In regions, the number of providers is much lower – not more than 20 in each large city.
