J’son & Partners Consulting presents main results of the research: Smart TV market, 2010 – 2017.

The following data was used during the preparation of the report: J’son & Partners Consulting’s materials, forecast of the largest consulting and analytical agencies, experts opinions, market indicators and official reports of largest companies in the industry.

According to many surveys, Smart TV is one of the most appealing functions for potential TVs buyers. Smart TV opens the access to internet video and opportunity to watch it on TV screen without additional adjustment and external devices, such as OTT boxes, dongles, consoles and STB.

The development of Smart TV is expanding VOD-platforms’ opportunities – paid and free: subscriber base is increasing, watching video time is also increasing, there is an opportunity to broadcast “heavy” content (HD, UltraHD) – as TV screen is now a terminal with large screen vs PC one.

Smart TV is also opening more opportunities for apps that don’t directly connected with video broadcast, first of all – social networks. The idea of social TV is becoming more real – input of information about favorite TV programs in twitter and facebook by remote control’s click; joined viewing of programs and chat with friends directly on TV screen and many other interactive functions.

Smart TV is also in demand among startups in TV sphere, as it helps to implement many innovational ideas on the new expansive Smart TV market.
