The 3 bands, 3.5 GHz, 4.5 GHz and 28 GHz, proposed by DOCOMO are well accepted in Japan and in the world as harmonized initial 5G frequency bands. They are already agreed to include in 3GPP as candidates of 5G bands for 5G NR specifications. 3GPP sets a higher priority to eMBB features for 5G NR Release 15 specifications according to proposals from DOCOMO and other companies.
Takehiro Nakamura, VP and General Manager of 5G Lab at NTT DOCOMO
In 2020, 5G will be launched DOCOMO initially from areas where higher performance is required. Both NR (Phase I) and enhanced LTE (eLTE) RAT are introduced with Non-Standalone (NSA). Beyond 2020, 5G areas will be gradually expanded while introducing additional features and frequency bands (= 5G+). LTE (or LTE-Advanced) cell can be continuously used as eLTE cell for a long-time. Stand-alone NR may be deployed in the future.
