A recent OTT and online TV business seminar in Moscow, organized by PCCW Global in partnership with J’son & Partners Consulting, drew leading Russian and international telecommunications companies as well as prominent TV and OTT players.
PCCW Global is the international operating division of Hong Kong-based PCCW-HKT, a globally-acclaimed IPTV player and provider of Hong Kong's quadruple-play capability, one of the first in the world. Building on a wealth of experience in the IPTV, OTT and multiscreen ecosystem, PCCW Global serves the telecommunications and OTT needs of businesses across Asia as well as various markets in Europe, Africa and the Americas.
The seminar was attended by companies such as Rostelecom, Beeline, NetByNet, Kazakhtelecom, Alma-TV, Channel One, TNT, Russia Today, Viasat, Twentieth Century Fox, Vintera.TV and ZED. They heard how the PCCW Group created nowTV, which became the world’s most successful multichannel IPTV platform within just a few years of its launch, as well as Hong Kong’s first quadruple-play capability. This capability enables customers to receive programming and other content via mobile, broadband, fixed-line and TV delivery channels.
Stephen Pang, PCCW Global's Senior Vice President, Asia & CIS, told the seminar that PCCW-HKT commands a 60% share of Hong Kong's broadband market, while providing more than 1.2 million pay-TV customers with over 190 channels of local, Asian and international programming.
Holding more than 30 years’ experience in video broadcasting, PCCW Global has established Asia’s largest commercial teleport comprising 30-plus earth stations, as well as teleport facilities in Europe and Africa. The company's International Television Center supports a state-of-the-art integrated fiber and satellite contribution/distribution network, while an extensive satellite footprint combines with a fiber-based Global Television Network to meet the most stringent broadcasting needs. This provides ready access to the world's broadcasting community, along with efficient point-to-multipoint delivery.
A suite of media solutions created by PCCW Global transports feeds over satellite and cable networks, transcodes file-based and live content for multi-screen consumption and offers an OTT video service, which comes complete with associated back-office functionality and can be integrated with either a global or regional content delivery network (CDN) capability, or both as required. A full suite of professional services is also available to assist broadcasters and telecommunications operators to expand their service portfolio in the OTT arena, should this be required.
PCCW Global's high-performance facility eliminates the need to build or manage a CDN and dramatically improves the website and OTT application user experience without calling for additional CAPEX.
A presentation from J’son & Partners Consulting explored market business models in the CIS, as well as online video consumption and the growth potential held by paid-for and free TV advertising in Russia.
