J'son & Partners Consulting has completed an analysis of public procurement in the Russian Federation. The purpose of this research was the Russian market of M2M and IoT in 2014-2018. This work has a lot in common with the previously released research by J'son & Partners Consulting which was devoted to cloud telemetry and general prospects of the M2M/IoT market. Details in the study “Russian M2M and IoT market. Results of 2017, forecast to 2022”.
Matrix approach to the calculation of the M2M and IoT market volume
The orthogonal model is used for correct calculation of the market volume. On one axis of the matrix there are functional segments (there are six), differing from each other in technological principles. On the other axis – there are industries in which these functional segments are being used. 10 such industry segments were selected for this model. Thus, it became possible to explore the functional and industrial clusters of the M2M and IoT market in a variety of combinations.
Volumes and dynamics of the procurement market as a whole in Russia, by years
During the period between 2014 and 2018 more than 30 thousand unique purchases were made (on average 6110 purchases per year) for the total sum of 430 billion rubles (on average 87 billion rubles per year). Over five years, the market dynamics has had a generally positive trend, but with one failure in 2017, the number of purchases during the study period increased by 27%, and the market growth in monetary terms amounted to 75%.
Functional segmentation in the market as a whole
The largest number of purchases in five years was made in the Physical Access Control System (PACS) and Navigation segments (33% and 19% respectively). The largest sums of money were spent in the "Remote control" segment (54% of the total market) and "Telemetry" which in its turn has numerous intersections with the Remote control segment.
Industry segmentation in the market as a whole
The three leaders in terms of both the number of purchases made and the costs are "Industry", "Transport" and "State management and security".
