An interview with Daniele Vinci, EMEA Application Technology Leader for Packaging Adhesives at Dow for The Chemical Journal (TCJ) within trade fair Interplastica 2018 (Moscow, 23-26 January).
TCJ: Introduce yourself, please
D.V.: Hi, so I´m Daniele Vinchi, Application Technology Leader for Dow Adhesives for packaging lamination in Europe, Middle East and Africa.
TCJ: Daniele, what you can tell us about global trends on your part of market - innovations, new demand, new directions and so on?
D.V.: As Dow has identified global trends and we know from the population prospective as population is growing we´re expecting more than 1 billion mouths to feed by 2050 and this is obviously gonna have an effect on the consumption of food and on the consumption of packaging. We are taking this very seriously because we think that packaging is a sustainable solution to prevent food waste. It´s estimated approximately 30% of the food is wasted bacause of inproper transportation and preservation due to inapropriate packaging.
So, Dow is very involved in that and we are providing solutions that can improve these kind of trends. We provide this by providing new innovations. One of the innovations that we have launched very recently, for example, at Interpack, last year, was a new adhesive solution of the packaging here that I can show you, where we can create completely recycable structures, which has been certified by an external company that provides certificates for recycability. So, this is only one of our innovations but we have innovation also in other trends not only in sustainability.
We have our new PacXpertTM, which addresses the needs for a more convenient packaging, for example. We have innovations in the resins business - we have launched a new resin, which is INNATETM. So these are the parts of innovative things we are doing and we´re doing all in the spirit of collaboration. We have our Pack Studios where we can collaborate with different partners in the industry, from converters to brand owners and obviously our safety suppliers of raw materials.
TCJ: Ok, thank you. What is your offer for Russian market, last 2-3 years, traditionally. And what you plan to sell next 1,2,5 years in Russia?
D.V.: We have talked about some of the innovations that we are bringing to the market. This is, obviously, also a target for the Russian market. The Russian market is a market that is expanding and is growing. The equipment quality present in the market is very high and we are planning to expand also in this region. So we think that the adoption of this innovation maybe will be a little bit later but also we think that we´ll accelarate very much in the next few years.
TCJ: Thank you!
